The Green Bay Packers went against their division rivals Detroit Lions in a must-win game in week 18. But things didn’t go their way all night and the frustrations piled up which eventually led to Quay Walkergetting ejected from the game.

During the fourth quarter of the game, the Lions trailed by 3 points and were knocking on the doors of the Packers’ endzone. Detroit QB Jared Goff slung the rock to DeAndre Swift who was then tackled down by DT Jarran Reed. After the tackle, the play was stopped to check on the injured Swift who was slow to get up. Amidst all this, the Packers’ LB Quay Walker shoved the athletic trainer who was tending to his injured player.

The push resulted in an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, and the NFL officials tossed Walker out of the game. The Penalty gave the lions a first goal from the five-yard line, which eventually lead to a touchdown. The Lions running back Jamaal Williams rushed for a 1-yard touchdown to give the lions a 20-16 lead with 5:55 left in the fourth quarter.

Losing an important defender in a crucial time proved to be costly as the Lions ended up winning the game and knocked out the Packers from the NFL playoffs. However, due to the Seahawks‘ victory against the Rams earlier, the Lions also got eliminated from the NFL playoffs.

Twitter reacts to Packers LB Quay Walker’s ejection

Packers fans on social media did not like Quay Walker shoving an athletic trainer, who was just checking on his injured player. Especially after what happened during Damar Hamlin‘s horrific injury last week.

How are you gonna push a trainer coming to check on an injured player after what happened last week?

— Fenian Hillbilly, J.D., M.B.A. (@mybironas2) January 9, 2023

How stupid can someone be. Especially after last week. Leave these guys be and let them attend to injured players.

— Ryan Fedrau (@the_fed_23) January 9, 2023

You’d think athletic trainers of all people should be given space to work and not touched

— Drunk La Russa (@TruuuuuIsMyQB) January 9, 2023

NOT a great week to do this

— Father Steele♔ ⁵⁰¹ˢᵗ ⚒ (@harrisonnsteele) January 9, 2023

Quay Walker loves getting ejected. But more importantly, on a week like this, how do you disrespect an athletic trainer!? Just dumb, absolutely dumb. An unfathomable level of insensitivity and stupidity.

— Emmanuel Acho (@EmmanuelAcho) January 9, 2023

Some people also wanted Devonte Wyatt to be eliminated too as he was seen bumping into the trainer after Walker shoved him. “95 should’ve been tossed too,” wrote one Twitter user.

95 should have been tossed too!!!!!

— trev.🏁🐍 (@hktrva) January 9, 2023

That other guy should’ve gotten flagged too

— Wムフ (@wembumyama) January 9, 2023

Should’ve been three Packers ejected on that play. Jarren reed for that. Deliver it hit to the head, walker, and #95 who also hit the trainer

— Mike Bara (@MikeBara333) January 9, 2023

95 should’ve been ejected too

— NYJ/BKN/NYM4LIFE (@cfattovw) January 9, 2023

The Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was also seen visibly frustrated with his player. He was caught on the cameras yelling “play smart” to the Georgia product. Walker was also seen crying on his way to the locker room.

This is the second time the linebacker has been ejected from the game for shoving the other team’s staff. Earlier in the season, during the Packers’ game against the Bills, Walker got ejected from the game for pushing the Bills’ athletic trainer.

Quay Walker is the only player in the NFL to be ejected twice this season and both times were for shoving a member of the other team’s training staff.

Incredible. pic.twitter.com/Mk8wHtb9kL

Quay Walker getting ejected twice in one season for shoving opposing coaches is an unbreakable NFL record lmao

The 22-year-old was drafted by the Packers in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft. He has registered 114 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a fumble recovery, and five tackles for loss in his rookie season.
